When AI answers first, are you in the answer?
Google now answers many searches with an AI Overview above the results, and people ask ChatGPT and other assistants for recommendations. We show how much of your search demand is affected, and whether your site is ready to be quoted.
- AI Overviews in your searches
- Whether AI crawlers can read your site
- What makes a page quotable
What the AI search report shows.
AI Overviews
Which of your searches show an AI answer first, and how much of your search demand that covers.
Where you sit
Your position under those answers, and whether your site is one of the sources quoted.
Can AI read you
Which AI crawlers your robots.txt lets in, and whether you publish an llms.txt file.
Quotable pages
Structured data and question-style headings — the signals AI answers lean on.
Blocking AI by accident is more common than you’d think.
Some hosts and security plugins block AI crawlers by default. That keeps your pages out of AI answers entirely — even when you rank well. The report shows exactly which crawlers can and can’t reach you, so the choice is yours.
Blocking AI blocks the wrong one.
Most businesses that block AI do it so their work isn’t used to train models. But a blanket block mostly cuts you out of AI answers — and does little about training.
Crawlers that train
GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Common Crawl’s CCBot and others collect pages to build future models. Much of the public web is already held in archives like Common Crawl, so blocking these today doesn’t take back what’s been gathered.
Crawlers that answer
OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and others fetch a page when someone asks a question right now — and point them to you as the source. Block these and you simply aren’t in the answer.
Let AI recommend you.
robots.txt is a request, not a lock: most of the big AI companies say they honour it, but not every crawler does. As a defence against training it’s weak. As a way to disappear from the answers people get when they ask AI who to call, it works perfectly.
- Let in the crawlers that answer questions, so AI can find and cite you
- Decide about training crawlers separately — you can turn them away and still be quoted
- Leave Googlebot alone: Google’s AI Overviews come from its normal search crawler
- Google-Extended controls Gemini and Google’s AI training — blocking it doesn’t take you out of Google Search
